The Royal Parks and AEG Live have announced three themed and specially designed areas, which will offer visitors to Hyde Park the very best in culture, dining and entertainment during the Monday to Thursday of Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park.
The three areas – The Village Green, the Piazza and the Carnival will bring an international feel to Hyde Park this summer with entertainment and activities for all ages, taking place from Monday 8th to Thursday 11th July.
Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time Hyde Park will provide open access to the park and its array of live activities, some of which will be offered completely free of charge.
The Piazza aims to capture the flavour of a buzzing European square during the height of the summer, serving up culinary treats from around the Continent from renowned event food traders. There will be a specialist bread maker and a bar offering a selection of European beers, including Moretti, whiskey and wine, to name just a few.
The Theatre in the Piazza will host a variety of theatrical and dance performances during the week, as well as a string of comedians for four nights of comedy. The comedy line-up will feature leading acts including The Comedy Store Players (Monday 8th July), Kevin Eldon and His Very Funny Friends (Tuesday 9th July), Laughing Boy Comedy Club (Wednesday 10th July) and Russell Kane presenting Lucy Beaumont and Jarlath Regan (Thursday 11th July). Comedy evenings will be ticketed and priced at £12.50 plus booking fee.
The Village Green will (try to) recreate the look and atmosphere of a quintessentially British scene – providing a rural environment in the centre of the city (now that we have to see). The Village Hall will host activities you would expect to find in a rural church hall – but with an urban twist (hilarious concept… we have to go just to see this). A Bandstand will be prominently positioned in The Village Green and will include a diverse musical programme of jazz bands, string quartets, community choirs and up and coming singer/songwriters to provide a sound track to the midweek.
Food and drink offered in this area will reflect the theme, with traditional English fare from independent food traders including The Pie Cart, Sausage Roll Sanctuary, Garlic Wood Farm and Roast of Sherwood, with a wide selection of beer, real ales, cider and English wines.
Celebrating the spirit of Hispania, South America and the Caribbean will be Carnival – the third area being developed. Flavours of these colourful regions will be represented in the culinary offerings – Empanadas from Borough Market’s famous ‘Portena’, Churros Garcia, Fresh Coconuts from The Coconut Kings, Burritos and Argentinean steaks, with speciality drinks such as Mojitos, Caipirinhas, Cuba Libres, and Sagres served from the aptly named Havana and Santa Clara bars.
A customised Carnival Float Stage will provide a vibrant, festive feel with a variety of colourful entertainment such as samba, salsa and steel drums, throughout the weekends.
Award-winning Soho trattoria, Bocca Di Lupo, will be providing al-fresco dining experience with pop-up restaurant Bocca Di Lupo In The Park. Exclusive dining packages during the week, as well as the two music weekends can be booked online.
Further details and schedules for the entertainment programming will be announced in the coming weeks.
