The Most Fun Way To Get Your Skipper License?

Combining a yacht holiday with training for your sailing qualifications at the same time certainly covers all bases.

European countries are increasingly tightening up their regulations about what qualifications people need for yacht charters. Many holidaymakers have sailing experience, but don’t have the required qualification, like the International Certificate of Competence (ICC) or Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Day Skipper license, to hire a yacht to sail themselves with their families or friends.

To avoid having to do a course separately to gain certification before the yacht charter holiday, Sunsail has come up with a new concept.

You book a flotilla holiday in Croatia (choice of two different flotilla routes: either Hvar or Krka in the Dalmatian Islands) starting at Agana.

You’re then provided with a qualified ICC instructor/examiner on board of a Sunsail 47Premier for the entire week when it’s said that all necessary training will be achieved.

Voila, you pass the exam at the end of the week to achieve the ICC which is required to hire and sail a yacht without having to hire a professional skipper. Congratulations.

This idea certainly combines the full social and sailing holiday experience you might be interested in but also incorporates the RYA Start Yachting Course Certificate, the RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship (ENAS) online course, ICC course and exam.

What’s even better, you can be learning together as a family or with friends at the same time.

Prices are from £2,856 for a Sunsail 47 Premier sleeping up to six (from £476 pp) for one week sailing holiday at the Hvar flotilla in Croatia including flotilla and skipper fees departing 9th May 2015 (yacht damage waiver and flights not included).

Curriculum includes the RYA Start Yachting Course, RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship (ENAS) online course – to be completed prior to departing the UK – and the International Certificate of Competence (ICC) course and examination.

All party members will be able to complete the Start Yachting certification; however, a maximum of three sailors will be able to sit the ICC course and examination at the end of the week.

This combination offer is available for the following weeks on Hvar flotilla or Krka flotilla routes departing on:

  • 2, 9 and 16 May
  • 6, 13 and 27 June
  • 8 and 15 August
  • 12, 19 and 26 September 2015
